Ancient Zolotarevka Settlement Museum Complex

The ancient settlement of Zolotarevka is a unique memorial of the medieval history of the region. The settlement was located along the major trade routes. It was established on a river peninsula and fortified by a massive fortress. The larger settlement area encompassed 25 Ha. It was known as a town in the 10th c, and was deestroyed in the autumn of 1237 by Batu Khan warriors. The numerous archeological evidence testify to the great battle in and around the town. This is the only place in the world with such a great number of historic evidence of battles between the East European peoples and the invaders of Mongol Empire. 
In 1960 the Zolotarevka settlement received the status of protected historical monument of great value. 
The archeological digs are still under way in Zolotarevka area. The popular historical festival ‘Zolotarevka settlement - civilizations crossroads’ takes place regularly, with spectacular re-enactments, craft fairs and concerts.
