Lokomotiv-Penza Champion of Russia in Rugby Sevens
Having reached the semifinals of the IV round ahead of schedule the Penza team won gold medals of the 2021-2022 season.

The last game on Sunday morning (group stage) was meant to strengthen the team's leading position in the group. But, most importantly, in case of success it would be crystal clear who the champion of Russia is: even the fourth place in final would make Lokomotiv-Penza far ahead its rivals.

Tagany Rog has already earned a reputation as a strong team that, thanks to an effective collaboration of Russian and South African players, is able to make things difficult for anyone. On Saturday, Zastava-7 experienced it for itself, but eventually won a gutsy victory with a score of 12:10. Then the southerners beat Krasny Yar (33:12), after that they had a tough match with Kuban, but still took over (24:22).

The first half confirmed that Tagany Rog is a serious rival, but the Lokomotiv showed its proficiency shortly before the break. During the sixth minute, Sergey Yanushkin made a move and scored the goal, and Aleksandr Gudok landed the ball in the scoring.

During the second half of the match, our team continued to control the course of the game. Ilya Babayev and Aleksey Bashev scored two more tries, and Tagany Rog was able to score its first point thanks to Muslim Ibragimov. The final score is 24:7.

This victory brought the Lokomotiv-Penza the title of the champion of Russia in rugby sevens of the 2021-2022 season ahead of schedule. Notably that for the first time the club won gold medals in the Olympic variety in 2019.
