The Sura Embankment

Penza people love taking a stroll along the stone embankment of the Sura river. The ‘Rostok’ (Young Shoot) monument on the bank of the river has become the symbol of the city and is much photographed. The 8.5 km suspension bridge across the Sura joins the western and the eastern banks. It was built in 1973 and was acclaimed as the best engineering structure of its type in those times. The suspension bridge does not just perform its main practical function, people come here to enjoy the fantastic views over the Sura river.
