The Sura reservoir is the biggest water reservoir in the Penza region. People often call it the Sura sea. The Sura reservoir length is 32 km, the width is 3 km. It provides the population with drinking water, and it is used for industrial water supply of the cities of Penza and Zarechny and farming lands irrigation.
The Sura reservoir located in Penza is famous for its clean water and picturesque landscape. It is a favourite vacation spot of inhabitants of the region. A splendid sand beach is a few kilometres from the village of Zolotaryovka. It is surrounded by a dense forest where you can pitch your tent and camp wild. Many holidays camps are located on the reservoir banks and rides are held in the neighbouring forest and around the reservoir perimeter.
