The theatre museum dedicated to Vsevolod Meyerhold was opened in Penza in 1984, on the day of 110th anniversary of the outstanding Russian actor and director. It was opened in the family house of wine merchant Emil Theodor Meyergold, father of Vsevolod Meyerhold, on Volodarskaya street (former Lekarskaya), built in 1881.
The museum exhibitions tell the story of Meyerhold’s remarkable career and his childhood years in Penza, his first friends and first experience of theatrical performances. The museum  contains an impressive collection of exhibits: photos, diaries, manuscripts, archival documents, personal things. The museum often houses research conferences and symposia dedicated to theatre art and studies.
The monument of Vsevolod Meyerhold was opened in 1999. It is a bronze statue that depicts a dynamic figure ready to step through the door. There are several theatre groups associated with the Meyerhold museum.
