Emelyan Pugachev Commemorative Stone

There have been a number of dramatic events in the history of Penza and one of those is depicted on the commemorative stone created by sculptors E.S. Iodynis and L.N. Scorobogatova. The stone relief shows the cavalry lead by Emelyan Pugachev entering the city. E. Pugachev, the leader of a large-scale peasant revolt of the end of the 18th c, stayed in Penza, in the house of merchant A.Koznov on the 2nd of August, 1774, on one of his military trips.
