Monument to a Jeweller ‘A Finishing Touch’
Address:Penza, Moskovskaya str.
The popular monument in the city centre was opened in 2013 as part of celebrating Penza 350th anniversary. The grandson of a well-known city jeweller came up with the idea and provided the funding. The monument stands in the busy pedestrian street.
It depicts a combined image of a jeweller. The character in 19th century clothes is sitting at the desk and peering at the ring in his hand. There is a glass on the table and a cat rubbing his back against the leg of the chair. The handwritten note on the table says ‘Dedicated to Vladimir Lomonosov’.
Quickly after its appearance, the monument acquired its own legends. According to one of them, if you insert a finger in the stone ring, you are destined to meet your othr half. The other legend insists that a person has to look the jeweller in the eye, viewing him through the ring, then rub his boot and make a wish, which will come true in the near future.
