The ‘Repentance’ monument marks the place where in 1920s public security officers conducted mass extrajudicial killings in the basement of the later demolished church. The sculpture was created by B. Kacherovsky.
Starting from 2004 there is an annual ceremony held at the monument. It is dedicated to Penza people who suffered unjust political repressions and were executed in the period from 1918 till 1953. There are about 1800 names on the commemoration list which is read aloud each year during the public ceremony.
