‘Gates of Afghanistan’ Memorial Complex

The memorial was opened iin 2010 and is dedicated to soldiers from Penza who participated in the war in Afghanistan. The complex consists of two major parts: the triumphant arch with an 8 m passage under it and the stele in the form of the arch passage that is reminiscent of a tombstone.
Both the arch and the stele are decorated with high reliefs depicting scenes of army life. The eternal flame is burning in the centre, between the arch and the stele. The memorial complex is surrounded by stone slabs with plaques that bear the names of the fallen soldiers.
