Pobedy Square
The monument has been erected in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Victory and opened up on the 9th of May 1975. It has been installed in a modern, newly constructed district with the arterial road Prospekt Pobedy originating from the Pobedy Square. The monument located in the very centre of the square is dedicated to the feat of Penza inhabitants during the Second World War.
The artificial hill being the statuary basis is decorated with an incised five-pointed star. Granite stairs leading to the monument face to five streets: Trudovaya, Lunacharskogo, Kommunisticheskaya, Karpinskogo, and Prospekt Pobedy.
On the hilltop, the sculpture of Mother Motherland with a child sitting on her shoulder is installed on a granite pedestal. By the pedestal there is a bronze figure of a defender warrior wearing a ground sheet and holding a rifle in his hand. In front of us, the Eternal flame burns in the star-shaped bowl, the inscription on the slabs runs as follows: ‘Their glory is eternal, their memory is sacred’.
A niche of one of the stepped granite descents shelters the Commemorative Book containing 100 185 names of our countrymen fallen in battles and discovered towards the moment of the memorial opening ceremony.
